Wool And Yarn For Knitting

There are many different fibers that can be used to construct knitting yarn. Wool is the first choice among the animal fibers while cotton is the choice when it comes to natural fibers. Different types of fibers like cashmere, angora and alpaca are used as knitting fibers. However the alpaca fibers are generally used now days as knitting fibers due to the tensile strength and smoothness as compared with wool and cotton.

Synthetic fibers are also used as knitting fibers. Acrylic fibers are the most commonly used knitting fibers in today's world. Other fibers also include linen, merino wool, tussah silk etc which are the luxury varieties of wool. However before purchasing your yarn you need to be sure of what you choose so that the future texture and quality of the project on hand is not spoilt.

You need to know the fiber content, weight and quality of the yarn before putting it to use in your project. Yarn weight is generally measured in terms of the thickness of the yarn. It is classified into the following: super fine, sports yarn, worsted but light, worsted only, craft and rug and super bulky. Thus depending on the project at hand you need to select the specific type of yarn.
